I always thought writing a love song was the hardest kind of tune to write because it's been done so many times and so many ways before. This is my first attempt…

I want to take some space on this page to thank Paul, Molly, Greg, Chris and Dwayne for being such a major part of this music and special thanks to Ray Weston for lending me the Ripper bass.

[ Kisses In The Sun ] - The underlying love story in George Orwell's 1984 always moved me more than the obvious themes. I don't know, maybe love and the betrayal of it was the main theme. The song came to me after watching the movie version with John Hurt and Richard Burton.

[ Mister Greenlight ] - I asked my brother Greg to write some lyrics to this tune. I wanted to write a "Pop" song in which the verse, chorus and bridge, although all the same tempo, have different feels. I made a couple drum loops to play along with the real drums. One of the loops is from Betty Carter's version of Open The Door and another is David Bowie's 5 Years.

[ All The Rage ] - One of the two songs on the album (I will always say album because I grew up in the 70's and 80's) that has strings. The amazing thing is that the players were only between 12 and 13 years old! I think the lyrics are pretty obvious. They were inspired by watching one of the thousands of programs deifying the famous. An interesting point…the chorus's first chord is an "A major" but due to me not paying attention during the writing and recording of the strings, I missed that the arrangement became an "A minor". When I started editing and mixing, something sounded a little too Charles Ives for my taste. Laying an "A major" on top of an "A minor" wasn't my idea of where the chorus should go. So, with a little editing, the first chorus is the original, the second the minor version, and the third both of them back to back.

[ So It Goes ] - This is my version of a Lyle Lovett story song. Thanks to Dwayne for turning me on to him.

[ When I Dream ] - I had been learning some Everly Brothers tunes for a gig when this one popped out. It was literally written (chords and melody) in one pass as I read the words. It will always make me think of Greg and his wife, Juliette, and of course, the Everly Brothers.

[ Main Street ] - This was the first tune Greg and I wrote together.

[ 15 Hours ] - Led Zeppelin’s When The Levee Breaks mixed in with a Beatles Bridge. I tried to keep the song to 3 chords but I just couldn’t do it. I like the fact that the grooves in an unobtrusive 9/8.

[ Change ] - I always think of Dwayne (who wrote the words) and his wife, Jodi, when I hear this. The solo section has a sort of Anthony Phillips vibe for me.

[ Come On Joe ] - A straight up rock, 9 to 5, drink some beers, hang with your friends, party with the girls kind of thing.

[ Sometimes Love Forgets ] - I was sitting, waiting to do a radio interview with Grey Eye Glances when this one came to me. The line "Love belongs to hearts that have been broken" is a Garrison Keillor quote that helped jump start the lyrics.

[ Untitled ] - I never could think of a title that seemed right. The story is of Kay and Gerda from Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen.

[ I Wont Say Goodbye ] - This is the story of an elderly couple near the end, longing for what was.

[ End ] - Recorded at 1am for all the lost pets.
