Brett, when not working with these 4 guys, has been busy working on the solo release from Mitch Linker. The reviews are just starting to come in and they're excellent! Here's a sample of the reviews:
"Mitch Linker's self-titled debut album is absolutely complete both lyrically and musically. This is pure, joyful pop music, the kind that brings a smile to your face even on a dreary rainy day. It is chock-a-block full of songs that get stuck in your head and stay there -- not that-that is a bad thing. Sometimes you find the gems, and sometimes they seek you out. This one arrived on my desk with a note saying it reminded someone of Billy Joel meets Brian Wilson--at least, that was what they thought. They were wrong; it's much better than that! If you can imagine Elton John and Billy Joel backed by The Beach Boys, you'll have a pretty good idea where Mitch Linker is coming from. Linker has one of those smooth, whispery voices that makes emotions almost transparent, and the spare arrangements that frame it are like windows. Sounds airy, I know, but it's true. And since his songs happen to be damn good. The strongest songs on the album include "All Of The Love" along with other deep tracks such as "Holding On", "It's Too Late", "Talk You Down", and "New York." While there may never be a new Elton John or Brian Wilson, in Mitch Linker there might just be a worthy heir. Simply Outstanding! A must have for music lovers." - Tony Sison, All Access Magazine05.11.05

There's a great new review of Brett's disc here.

I’m in the midst of recording this great band called Trace Fury. The instrumentation is two female singers (that also play keys), drums, bass and sax. Great people to work with (very open to suggestions). They want to learn as much as I do. We are working on 6 tunes for an EP. We have 2 1/2 more to go. I’ll get a link and some samples of the tunes up when they are ready. I think if I needed to tell you what they sound like I’d say Kate Bush meets Steely Dan.
I put some samples of the band Thee (or 3 if you like) up to check out. The band is made up of three of the most talented singers I’ve ever worked with. They can do anything! I’m playing most of the instruments on the tunes, producing, and mixing. The songs are really coming out beautifully and have some really interesting arrangements. As a point of interest: the song Come Into My Life features Chico Huff on bass, Chris Buzby on Wurlitzer and organ, and Paul Ramsey on Drums. Description?... The 5th Dimension meets the Beatles.
I’m producing a guy named Ray Weston (echolyn singer, bass). This is going to be wonderful when it comes out. It very interesting sonically. Ray has a knack for coming up with some really hooky melodies that appeal to me on lots of levels. This should be done by fall. Sounds like the point Night gets tired and becomes the Day again.
I’m slowly getting a vibe together for my next Solo record. I have a bunch of tunes that just need fermenting...
That’s all for now. Currently reading - Travels On The Healing Road; Ghost Rider (Neil Peart). Currently listening to - Radiohead's Hail To The Thief and Badly Drawn Boy's Have You Fed The Fish?

In issue 42 of Progression Magazine, there is a very good review of the album. Here it is!
"Brett Kull - Echolyn's lead guitarist and vocalist alongside Ray Weston - has succeeded where many have tried and failed. He obviously set out to record his own take on the Beatles. And save for an occasional lame melodic phrase in a few of the ballads, he has come addictively close to equaling the Fab Four. Lest you dismiss this as critic's hyperbole, run - do not walk - to the three-minute track, Mister Greenlight. Bet you can't listen just once! After a bass propelled run through the first verse, Echolyn mate Paul Ramsey picks up the pace on the second verse with a neat shuffling drum beat, and then the major chord refrain explodes with harmonized infectiousness.10.03.02This sequence repeats, then a mid-section vocal introduces a very George Harrison-like restatement of the verse melody on electric guitar. An inventive coda segues into the next little gem, All The Rage, which includes a string arrangement by Echolyn keyboardist extraordinaire, Chris Buzby. The point here is that Brett Kull's songs are full of creativity instead of trying to ape specific Beatles tunes. Highly recommended."
Here's a great review that will be out in Classic Rock magazine int the UK:
"For something lighter check out a more obscure album, namely Orange-ish Blue, a solo release by ECHOLYN guitarist BRETT KULL. This is far removed from Echolyn's recent and fairly difficult Mei opus. Instead Orange-ish Blue is an unassuming little album, very much song based and with a heavy emphasis on Kull's acoustic guitar. Kull's Echolyn colleagues drummer PAUL RAMSEY and keyboardist CHRIS BUZBY both guest. There are some lovely tunes here, not least 'Mister Greenlight', 'So It Goes' and the gorgeous 'I Won't Say Goodbye'. A real treat."
